Matt’s class offers a creative learning environment that feels safe and inspires. Growth happens when we face our fears and challenge ourselves. As opposed to talk therapy or self help books, improv makes you actively get out of your comfort zone which is the quickest way to figure out where your blocks lie.

Matt is such a comfortable, honest, and down-to earth instructor that he reduces one’s natural fear of performing and embarrassment. Perhaps, the biggest reason I continue to attend is that it reminds me of being a child again-playing and just having fun!

I have seen my students grow to be confident, outspoken young adults who are succeeding in their personal and academic lives because of the lessons they are learning in Matt’s class. Matt’s innate talent and love of improv is apparent in his lessons; he comes to class armed with endless activities and games that help the students become bolder and more expressive people. Matt Gaffney knows all about it because he did it. Matt was highly anxious person in public or group environments and rarely shared his opinions or asked questions. Matt flipped the script on his fears and anxieties and credits the art for improv for it.

After a decade of training in improv and comedy, Matt realized the journey is the destination and that there are master teachers and unique techniques that all work towards freeing you in your life. He has created a community of seekers, based in Venice at the Electric Lodge, who partake and benefit from his classes, masterclasses, guest teachers, workshops and performances.
